Non-Commercial Open Access Policy

Access Model

The RMF/MJP is a non-commercial scientific journal, supported and partially funded by the Mexican Society of Phytopathology, A.C. (SMF). True to its open-access philosophy, the journal does not charge fees for the publication of manuscripts, nor for reading or downloading them, thereby guaranteeing free access to plant pathological knowledge generated through original, scientifically rigorous research. The adopted model is Gold Open Access. The RMF/MJP may transition to a Diamond model (with no charges for authors or users) if sustainable and sufficient public funding is guaranteed.

To ensure the operational sustainability of the RMF/MJP and maintain its bilingual (Spanish – English) national and international indexing, authors of published manuscripts make a contribution toward publication costs (CCP), which covers typesetting and translation services. The SMF subsidizes payments for licenses, software, web domains and servers, Crossref, XML tagging, style editing, editorial operations, and copyright fees. The peer review work carried out by Editors, Reviewers, and Referees is performed on a voluntary basis.

Once a manuscript has been formally published following double-blind peer review and editing, the following fees apply:

Fixed Layout Fee: MXN 1 000.00 (Mexican pesos) per contribution. This amount covers typesetting, including typesetting, insertion of tables, high-quality digital processing of phytopathological figures, generation of galley proofs, digital web structure, and assignment of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Essential Translation Service: Due to its bilingual nature, the entire contribution must be published in Spanish and English. Authors pay for the professional translation service. The final fee is calculated proportionally based on the number of words in the accepted document. The RMF/MJP is currently undergoing a technological transition to the use of certified AI translators to reduce costs.

The content published on the RMF/MJP web platform is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. This license authorizes readers, institutions of higher education, and institutional repositories to share, copy, distribute, print, or link to the full texts for any academic, educational, or research purpose, provided that explicit credit is given to the original authors and the journal; any use, exploitation, or redistribution of this material for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.
